High praise for BBC2’s Unforgivable
Jimmy McGovern’s Unforgivable, which aired on BBC Two on 24th July, has received strong praise for its powerful and honest portrayal of a family in crisis. The drama follows the aftermath of a historic abuse case and focuses on the emotional fallout, with Anna Friel and Bobby Schofield both delivering intense and deeply affecting performances.
Reviews have highlighted the drama’s emotional weight and refusal to offer easy answers. Instead of dramatic twists or resolution, Unforgivable leans into the uncomfortable reality of how abuse impacts not just the victim but the entire family. Critics described it as raw, compassionate and brave in its storytelling.
The cast also features two talented actors from Alex Priestley Talent — Charlie De’Arth and Lushomo Maambo — who bring strong support to the story’s courtroom and institutional scenes. Their presence adds to the grounded and authentic feel of the piece, which has clearly struck a chord with viewers and critics alike.

Here We Go returns for its third season
Here We Go returns for its third season on Friday 25th July at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer, bringing six more chaotic adventures with the ever-disastrous Jessop family. The upcoming season sees familiar family dynamics unravel further, as Paul takes on the unwanted role of mentor to a junior police officer, while Rachel meddles in Amy and Maya’s relationship woes under the guise of couples therapy. Among the season’s more eccentric highlights is Robin’s LARP Festival, where the family is roped into a weekend of medieval roleplay involving costumes, sword fights, and mead.
A host of guest stars join the fun this year, including Jane Horrocks as Sue’s Uno-obsessed nemesis Ethel Ticehurst, along with Robert Glenister, Jamali Maddix, Susannah Fielding, Seb Cardinal, Kathryn Drysdale, Stevie Martin, and Kevin ‘KG’ Garry. Returning cast members Jon Furlong and Ed Kear reprise their roles as Jelson and Dean, while Rachael McGuinness appears in episode four, Scammers.

The Old Vic’s “Girl from the North Country”
The Old Vic’s Girl from the North Country has now officially opened, with press night taking place on July 9, 2025. Running until August 23, this acclaimed musical by Conor McPherson, featuring the songs of Bob Dylan, returns to its original home after first premiering there in 2017.
The cast includes Colin Bates, Katie Brayben, and Colin Connor—reprising their roles from the West End and Broadway—with a 23-strong company of actors and musicians bringing the story to life.
Conor McPherson, writer and director of the show, expressed his excitement about the return to the Old Vic, stating that it’s a “spiritual home where it all began,” according to the West End Best Friend. The show has received critical acclaim and has been performed internationally, including on Broadway and in Canada.
Colin Connor’s portrayal of Nick Laine in Girl from the North Country at the New Vic has drawn glowing five-star praise for its emotional depth and nuanced authority. Critics highlighted Connor’s “De Niro-esque commanding voice and sense of authority” as he adeptly balances the character’s rage and vulnerability, while carrying the weight of a family’s financial and personal struggles. His performance was described as “a vigorously building arc of stress and a heartwarming finish line of care and love,” expertly drawing laughter and sympathy in equal measure. Reviewers also noted how Connor’s internal conflict—torn between love, duty, and infidelity—remains startlingly relatable and likeable throughout, showcasing his remarkable ability to anchor the show’s raw emotional core.

Widely hailed as “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off takes audiences on a riotous ride through the onstage and backstage chaos of a hapless touring theatre company attempting to perform the fictional play Nothing On.
